SEEKING QUALIFIED APPLICANTS FOR APPOINTMENT TO BELDING CITY COUNCIL
The City Council of the City of Belding is accepting Letters of Interest from qualified applicants to be considered for appointment to fill a vacancy on the City Council. The vacancy is for one partial-term expiring in November, 2026.
- Letters of Interest shall be filed no later than noon (12PM) on Monday, May 4, 2026
- Submit Letters of Interest to Belding City Clerk, 120 S. Pleasant, Belding, MI48809 or jortego@belding.gov.
- Interviews will be conducted during the Regular City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 7PM at the Pere Marquette Depot, 100 Depot Street in Belding.
- Belding City Council will make the appointment of new council member following the interviews.

Section 4.9 Filling vacancies.
- If a vacancy occurs in any elective City office, the Council shall, within thirty (30) days after such vacancy occurs, appoint a person who possesses the qualifications required of holders of said office to fill the unexpired term of the person whose office the vacancy occurs.
Section 4.4 Eligibility for office in the city.
- Must be a resident of the City of Belding for at least one-year immediately prior to, and is a registered elector on the day of his/her appointment to fill a vacancy.
- No person shall be eligible for any appointive City office who is in default to the City.
Section 4.11 Oath of Office.
- Before entering upon the duties of his/her office, the appointee shall take the Oath of Office prescribed by the Michigan Constitution and shall file the same with the Clerk. Failure to comply within 10 days of appointment, shall be deem the officer to have declined the office.
Section 4.16 Nepotism.
- Unless, by unanimous vote of the City Council that the best interests of the City shall be served, the following relatives are disqualified from holding any elective or appointive office during the term for which said elective or appointive officer was elected or appointed: Spouse, child, parent, grandchild, grandparent, brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister or the spouse of any of them. All relationships shall include those arising from adoption.

CITY OF BELDING
NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING
The Belding City Council will hold a Public Hearing regarding the Proposed Fiscal Year 2026/27 Budget on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at the Pere Marquette Depot, 100 Depot Street. The property tax millage rate proposed to be levied to support the proposed budget will be a subject of this hearing. The Proposed Budget is available for inspection at City Hall during normal business hours or by email at jortego@belding.gov.
